I have horrible calf pain when I walk in flat shoes, but no pain when I wear heels.?

I try to wear flat shoes but it is so painful in my calves that I have to go back to heels. I try to stretch my calves and eat bananas and drink water but it still hurts!! I have been dealing with this problem for some time, but now it seems worse because I have to walk further to get to my job... and I am stuck in heels daily because I can't take the pain. Anyone else have this problem???

Sounds like your Achilles tendon is acting up.

You need to see a orthopedist and check it out.

Heels are the worst thing to wear as they ruin your legs and feet by putting them out of alignment and creating shortened tendons that have to be surgically fixed.
Reply:Have you been wearing nothing but heels for a while? The only similar thing I've heard of is ppl who slouch over a computer monitor all day after years the muscles in their chests shorten making it painful for them to sit up straight. I suppose that's a possibility but not very likely. I would still suggest excersize probably something designed to increase flexibility and stamina. Best option though would probably be to see a doctor about this.

Reply:I have a similar problem although it doesn't sound as severe as yours. I wear heels often and I am very uncomfortable in flat shoes to a point that my legs get really tired fast when in flats and feel uncomfortable.

My doctor has said that if you wear heels too often, sometimes it causes the tendons in the foot to shorten since it is has adjusted to the different type of shoe. And when you suddenly switch to flats, your tendons are stretching beyond what they are now used to so they will start to spasm and have to work harder.

Usually you can start to reverse it by duing certain exercises and alternating the heel height to lower heels until you can eventually wear flats again. Wear your normal heel height one day and then the next wear an inch or so lower and then go back to the normal height. Do that every other day and after a few weeks to a month try to drop another inch and so on. If that doesn't work you may need to discuss it with a podiatrist what your options may be to stretch out the tendon again.
