Is there a specific type of shoe that isnt recommended for wearing through security?

I've heard there are some shoes like extra large heels that arent recommended because they will be screened extra. Is that true?

Is there a specific type of shoe that isnt recommended for wearing through security?
Everyone is required to remove all types of shoes and footwear prior to passing through the metal detector at the security checkpoint. All shoes are x-rayed as part of the standard security check. This includes everything from flip-flops to steel-toed work boots.

That said, you're best off with a shoe that's easy to slip on and off. You don't want to be re-lacing a knee high boot when you're trying to catch your flight!

I think your question is specifically referring to the fact that some shoes, especially dress shoes, loafers and work boots, contain a metal shank (to reinforce the narrow part of the shoe's sole beneath the instep). These shoes will have to go through the standard x-ray like any other footwear, but are unlikely to require additional investigation.
Reply:It doesn't matter what type of shoes you wear because you now have to remove them and put them through the x-ray machine.
Reply:No unless you got one of them cowboy shoes wearing you twist the heal and a knife pops out the front.
Reply:idk, i doubt it
Reply:ALL SHOES MUST BE REMOVED TO SCREEN. It is a TSA Policy that you must abide by, or you will be denied boarding. Flip Flops are always preferable, as they are easy to remove and put back on.
Reply:work shoes like STEEL TOE SHOES A VERY BAD IDEA.
Reply:doesn;t realy matter. you have to take your shoes off anyway when you go through check point so my vote.. something easy on and off and comfortable
