I believe your referring to Nike Shox. They are used to absorb the shock of your heel hitting the gorund when running like schock absorbers do for a car
Reply:They are supposed to provide heel cushioning but what they actually do is raise the heel unnecessarily creating a shoe that causes a lot of ankle injuries. You won't often see Nikes on real runners.
Reply:they just basically cushion so that your heel is not "hitting" the ground when you re running, that helps to ease the heel-toe transition
