Bloch Aspiration Pointe Shoe?
I think the Bloch Aspiration is a Great beginner shoe, my friend loves hers. It's great because it's a 3/4 shank so it makes your foot look good, and you can balance really well on it.
If the store doesn't have those, I also suggest Freed because they break in well and I love them.
Good Luck and Congrats!
Reply:Okay, heres your answer...
Don't buy a bloch shoe for your first pointe shoe!
I've been dancing all of my life. I'm on a professional level of dance, teach and take ballet and pointe, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern....Danced in New York, Chicago, Detroit ...all over!!!
Its soooo exciting to start pointe....but its much more important to make sure that your shoes fit you correctly. I would personally recommend the brand Freed's. Make sure you get the correct width, size and shank strenght that you think you will need. They make a shoe called the STUDIO and it is EXCELLENT for a beginner or a professional. Also I would discourage pointe shoe gel pads for now...as it is soooo important to feel the floor when you are just beginning...though I don't know your level of experience??? Capezio has a new line of shoes out with elastic drawstrings that I like as well....You can't top freed though, its what most of ABT wears and NYCBC as well. Its a sturdy shoe ...(the studio)
Also...what we do...
Get fitted professionally....Then buy from www.discountdance.com You will be able to special order your shoes in a extra hard shank if you are having breaking problems, which blochs are notoriously known for!! And could probably get two through the website for the price of one at your local dance store!
Have fun and don't buy anything that hurts, rubs, or just feels funny.....Gaynor Miden has a nice section on their website for beginning pointe dancers!! It'd be worth reading in your spare time.....
Good luck and enjoy dance always!!!

Reply:As an ex-dance teacher I cannot recommend enough for you to read and re-read the answer from Mandi. It is extremely important that you are properly fitted for your first pair of shoes. Please speak to your teacher and get her advise. She knows your strengths and weaknesses and will probably recommend which shoe(s) she would like you to try.
It is also important that you care for your shoes properly. Pointe shoes do not last very long if you are dancing hard, but with proper care you can make them stretch for a while.
Work hard, listen to your teacher and let your spirit soar with dance!
